Court Commander – aka – Open Gym facilitator
About Us
The Windermere Valley Youth Centre Society is all about creating a safe and chill space where youth can just be. Think free food, mental health support, and epic hangouts. We’re a crew of compassionate, creative, and energetic folks, and we’re looking for more amazing humans to join our team!
About the Role
Do you live for the game? Are you the person who can turn a regular gym session into an absolute banger? We’re on the hunt for a Court Commander (aka Open Gym Facilitator) to bring the hype to our Friday and Saturday open gym sessions for teens aged 12-18. This isn’t about being a coach; it’s about setting the stage for fun, good vibes, and making sure everyone feels included, whether they’re a basketball phenom or just there to shoot some hoops.
Basically, you’re the master of ceremonies for all things court-related. You’ll open up the high school gym, get the gear ready, and just keep the energy flowing. We’re all about participation and good times, not intense training.
Think: The energy of a hype-man at a sports event meets the chill, supportive vibe of your favorite youth worker.

- Set the Scene: Open the high school gym and get all the sports equipment ready for action.
- Keep the Energy Up: Facilitate dope sports activities and encourage everyone to get involved.
- Vibe Check: Make sure the gym is a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space for all youth.
- Be a Role Model: Show up as your awesome, positive self.
- Communicate: Keep the Executive Director in the loop about what’s working and any cool new ideas.
- Flex Potential: There’s a chance to pick up extra shifts at the Youth Centre as a Vibe Curator if you’re down!
Who We’re Looking For
- Youth Whisperer: You genuinely love working with teens, and they can feel it.
- Activity Ace: You’ve got experience leading activities or working with youth (think camp counselor, team captain, tutoring – you get the picture).
- Communicate Like a Boss: You’re clear, kind, and can connect with anyone.
- Reliable & Ready: You show up, you’re creative, and you can roll with the punches.
- Boundaries with Love: You can set limits while still being empathetic.
- Authentic: Willingness to be a little silly, curious, or even vulnerable goes a long way with youth.
- Clean Record: You’ll need a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (we’ll help you sort this out).

- Food Safe
- Background in education, youth work, social work, or recreation
