What is a Drop-In Program?

The Youth Centre is a place for youth to meet, hang out and enjoy some good times with friends. We provide a supervised, bully-free, drug & alcohol-free environment where youth can build healthy relationships with our youth workers and their peers. They are provided support and encouragement in a safe environment where they can realize their potential. In addition, we encourage youth to be an active part of their larger community by volunteering at community events and fundraisers. We offer work experience, practicum placements and volunteer hours that can contribute towards graduation requirements. This semester we had three grade-12 students completing a mentorship program where they work with younger youth to build positive relationships and connections. We believe these experiences build protective factors against mental health and substance abuse issues. This year, the Youth Centre has seen tremendous growth. We currently have 320 youth registered with our organization. In February alone we hade 452 visits to the Centre and we are thrilled with this increase in numbers. We are currently closed due to coronavirus.

What are the Benefits?

The Youth Centre provides a sense of belonging, an intentional place in our community. We offer an engaging, positive environment for after school activities. We make available information; we refer and increase youth access to other community services. Youth Workers build resiliency factors for youth by supporting and guiding them through emotional self-regulation, teaching problem-solving and communication skills. Youth workers are positive adult role models that youth can trust, treating them with compassion and offering empathy. We want youth to have every support they need to grow into healthy successful adults. We believe that our programs, our youth workers and our organization have positive impacts on youth, their families and the community.
