Box City

We started this event in 2014 as a part of our maps program which aimed to prepare youth for life after high school. We talked about risk factors that can lead to homelessness.

According to statistics from the federal government. There are 30,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in Canada.

This event allows us to start a conversation with youth around the circumstances of homelessness. Our aim is to end any stigma or misconceptions that people may hold around this issue and have a real conversation about risks that can lead to experiencing homelessness.

This event occurs annually in October. Come and sleep outside with us at pothole park to get a glimpse of what it is like to experience homelessness.

Please bring warm clothes and a sleeping bag. We will have muffins and hot chocolate available. Arrive between 7:00-8:00pm to start building your box shelter for the night (before it gets dark!!)

Bring boxes, a tarp, duct tape – anything you think you’ll need for your shelter.
